Kwikset and Schlage Electronic Locks

If you wanna keep track of when your spouse or kids coming home and going out, you can have an electronic lock installed on your main door, which is the kind of lock that can send you an email when the door is opened. Currently, there are two companies, Kwikset and Schlage, making these smart electronic locks.

The Kwikset and Schlage electronic locks shall be best used with a BlackBerry or any smartphones that support push email. So, when the door that has the electronic lock installed is unlocked, an email will be sent to your device.

The electronic door locks from the two companies are designed to be integrated with more ornate wireless whole house automation system. Kwikset uses Control4 and Schlage has their own system called LiNK. All these electronic locks can be programmed to initiate all sorts of other activities including light going on, music or TV switched on, thermostat brought to room temperature and windows shades lowered or raised etc. The Kwikset’s Control4 system even controls AV system while the Schlage system does not.

The Kwikset locks are shown in the picture, priced between $100-$110. They can store up to 30 programmable codes, equipped with motorized bolts for remote control. The email notification feature needs you to have the Control4 system installed.

The Schlage locks priced around $200, are able to handle up to 19 codes only, and come in either lever or deadbolt (non-motorized) versions. These locks do not need you to have the whole system to have the email notification function. But you need to pay $13/month for a monitoring system to get the feature.
