Sharp Evangelion Phone
In the US, gadgety goodies often have cameos in movies and television shows. James Bond uses a Nokia 8800 in Casino Royale, Apple computers and iPods are all over the place and even in video games (Snake uses an iPod in Metal Gear Solid 4), and Sony somehow survived Judgment Day and popped up in Terminator Salvation.
In Japan, marketers know real impactful tie-ins apparently lie with anime, and Sharp’s limited edition “SH-06A NERV” phone, also being called the Evangelion Phone, will appear in the anime of the same name. The phone has been reworked beautifully with an Evengelion graphic user interface and features a 10 megapixel camera, 3.3-inch LCD, and a painted body that looks like it could fit right into the show. DoCoMo and Sharp will be producing around 30,000 of the phones, and they’ll only work in Japan.
