Phantom Ray for US Defense
It resembles like a vehicle off Star Trek intergalactic. But this one is for real. Boeing’s experimental unmanned Phantom Ray drone is scheduled for testing in 2010. The Phantom Menace Ray parent program (X45-C) is funded entirely by DARPA - Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the central research and development organization for the U.S. Department of Defense amounting to around $942 million. It is designed to do a number of things all by its lonesome, including bombing runs, surveillance and autonomous mid-air refueling. Its top speed reaches 0.85 Mach. Ceiling is 40,000 feet and it can carry 4,500 pounds. The kind of money that the defense personnel get is just no joke, but, honestly what can this one ACTUALLY do? [Shilpa]
