Nokia 6216 Classic

The Nokia 6216 classic is a handset that comes with Near Field communication support. We’ve seen NFC on the Nokia 6212 handset before, which allows it to pair and exchange contents (music, video, calendar data etc) by tapping it with another NFC-enabled device such as a NFC-enabled photo frame, cellphone, speaker etc. And now NFC has been extended to the classic 6216, to allow contactless payment via NFC.

The Nokia 6216 also allows NFC payment. It’s the first handset of Nokia that comes with an embedded NFC chipset that communicates with NFC apps stored on the SIM card. It allows the user to securely store their credit card information, contact-less ticketing and payment applications on the SIM.

This is handy for users to use the payment system to replace many of their credit cards in their wallet. Or to use the ticketing system at any terminal service. The user just needs to wave the handset in front of an contactless terminal.

Other features of this classic phone include 3G, camera, FM radio, microSD slot etc. The Nokia 6216 classic phone is expected to ship in the third quarter of 2009 in selected markets with an estimated retail price of EUR 150 before subsidies and taxes.
