Increases Internet Speed by 60 Times

Photonic integrated circuit or PIC is being worked on by some scientists that is claimed capable of increasing the Internet speed by a hefty 60 times i.e. terabit per second of Internet speed is one step closer.
Besides boosting the speed of the Internet up to 60 times faster, the PIC is also able to monitor the speeds, keep the information flow error free and maintain integrity of transmission - a critical element that keeps traffic flowing. The team led by Professor Ben Eggleton says his team has effectively unblocked the bottleneck of Internet traffic.
The PIC is analogous to train switching from one track to another. It is a scratched piece of glass, which achieves its terabit per second capacity by using the “scratch” as a guide or a switching path for information.
Switching path or track by the PIC is extremely speedy which takes only picosecond to change tracks, which is equivalent to turning on and off the switch one million million times in a second.
The PIC is a tiny-sized chip that will cost around $66. It’s energy-efficient and has a life span of ten years, which has high potential to replace those expensive and complicated electronic circuits used in measuring instruments, since it’s been found good at monitoring integrity of transmission.
